1. Sunday, welcome to The Wheatbaker family! What made you excited to bring your maintenance expertise to our hotel?
I’ve always been drawn to places that value excellence in every detail. The Wheatbaker’s reputation for refined hospitality and the chance to help maintain such a beautifully designed property made me excited to join the team. Knowing my work directly supports the guest experience is what motivates me most
2. What do you believe is the key to maintaining a flawless physical environment for hotel guests every single day?
Consistency and attention to detail. It’s about noticing the small things before they become noticeable to anyone else — whether it’s a loose fitting, a quiet mechanical issue, or something that simply doesn’t look right. Proactive care is what keeps the environment seamless.
3. What is one architectural feature or mechanical system at The Wheatbaker that you find particularly interesting to work on?
I’m especially interested in the building’s climate and air-handling systems. Keeping the temperature and air quality perfectly balanced across different spaces is both a technical challenge and something guests feel immediately, even if they never think about it.
4. When multiple maintenance tasks arise at once, how do you prioritize them to keep everything functioning seamlessly?
I always start with anything that could affect guest safety or comfort, then move to issues that impact operations, and finally handle routine or aesthetic items. Clear communication with the team and staying calm under pressure helps everything stay organized.
5. What technical tool or piece of equipment is your absolute favorite to use on the job?
A good multimeter is hard to beat. It’s simple, reliable, and helps me quickly diagnose electrical issues so problems can be solved accurately the first time.
6. How do you approach routine maintenance to ensure potential issues are fixed before they ever affect a guest?
I treat preventive maintenance as the most important part of the job. Following schedules carefully, inspecting systems regularly, and documenting everything means most problems are caught and corrected long before a guest would ever notice them.
7. What quality do you think is most important for someone working in maintenance at a high-end luxury property?
Discretion combined with thoroughness. Guests should never feel the work happening around them, yet everything must be maintained to the highest standard. Quiet excellence is essential.
8. How do you define hospitality from a maintenance team member’s perspective?
Hospitality means making sure the physical environment supports every other department’s ability to deliver exceptional service. When systems work perfectly and spaces look and feel right, guests can fully enjoy their stay without distraction.
9. What routine or habit helps you kick off a successful and productive workday?
I start by reviewing any overnight reports and walking key areas of the property. That early check helps me set clear priorities and begin the day already ahead of potential issues.
10. What is a memorable maintenance project or problem-solving moment you've been proud of in your career?
One that stands out was diagnosing an intermittent electrical issue that had been difficult to pinpoint. After careful testing and collaboration with the team, we resolved it permanently. Knowing it prevented future disruptions for guests was very satisfying.
11. How do you maintain a positive and supportive relationship with staff members from other hotel departments?
I make a point of being approachable, responding quickly, and explaining things clearly when needed. Good communication and mutual respect go a long way in building trust across departments.
12. How do you like to unwind and spend your personal time when you're not keeping the hotel in top shape?
I enjoy quiet time outdoors, listening to music, and working on small personal projects at home. It helps me recharge so I can bring fresh energy back to work.
13. If you could describe the energy and work ethic you bring to The Wheatbaker in three words, what would they be?
Reliable. Detail-oriented. Steady.
14. What project or personal goal are you most looking forward to tackling here at the hotel?
I’m looking forward to getting to know every system in the building thoroughly and contributing to continuous improvement so the property remains in excellent condition year after year.
15. What is a fun fact or unique skill about you that people might not guess right away?
I’m quite good at figuring out how things work just by listening carefully — whether it’s a machine making an unusual sound or a system behaving slightly differently than usual. It’s become a useful skill on the job.
