1. What drew you to maintenance at The Wheatbaker?
The chance to keep a beautiful property running smoothly and help deliver a seamless guest experience.
2. What is the foundation of good hotel maintenance?
Consistent preventive maintenance and attention to the small details.
3. Which part of the property interests you most?
The technical areas, especially electrical systems and equipment. I enjoy working in the parts of the hotel guests rarely see, where so much of the real work happens.
4. How do you approach an unexpected technical fault?
I do not let pressure make me skip the thinking process. I assess what happened, make the area safe, then trace the fault back to its cause. Panic has never repaired a circuit.
5. Which tool do you rely on most?
My multimeter and tester. Equipment can look fine and still have a serious electrical fault. The meter helps me find what I cannot see.
6. How do you balance speed with quality?
I assess the issue quickly, then work carefully so the job is done right the first time.
7. What strengths do you bring to the team?
A hands-on approach and the ability to think several steps ahead. I test and trace faults to find the root cause, rather than only treating the symptoms.
8. What do guests rarely realise about hotel maintenance?
Our success is often measured by what guests never notice. When the lights, air conditioning, water, hot water and television all work, guests experience a good hotel. Behind that ease are people checking pumps, breakers, cables, chillers, generators and control panels. When we do our job exceptionally well, nobody needs to ask what we did. To me, that quiet reliability is part of luxury.
9. How do you begin a typical workday?
With a quick walk-through of key areas and a review of overnight reports.
10. What principle guides your work?
Prevention is better, and quieter, than emergency repairs.
11. How do you respond to guest requests?
I communicate clearly and promptly, and treat every guest request as urgent.
12. How do you spend your time outside work?
I enjoy good music, football, fixing things at home and spending time with my family.
13. What three words describe you at work?
Reliable. Thorough. Curious.
14. What are you working towards professionally?
I want to master more advanced electrical systems while mentoring newer team members.
15. What might colleagues be surprised to learn about you?
I am a surprisingly good cook and enjoy experimenting with Nigerian dishes. I also work on my electrical brand, Dreline Electric.
