Anyị nwere ike izute gị?
My name is Muniru Idowu Haliu, and I proudly serve as an Accountant at The Wheatbaker Hotel. With a strong eye for detail and a passion for numbers, I help ensure the financial heartbeat of our hotel stays steady and strong. Behind the scenes, I’m committed to accuracy, transparency, and supporting smooth operations—because great hospitality also needs solid financial stewardship.
Tell us what attracted you to join The Wheatbaker?
What attracted me to join The Wheatbaker Hotel was its longstanding reputation for excellence, sophistication, and refined luxury. Beyond the elegance it offers guests, I was drawn to the hotel’s strong internal culture—a sense of community and camaraderie that’s clearly reflected in the way the team works together. It’s not just a place that delivers world-class service to guests; it’s also a space where staff are respected, empowered, and given the opportunity to grow. Being part of an environment that values both high standards and human connection was important to me. I wanted to align myself with a brand that doesn’t compromise on quality but also understands that exceptional hospitality is delivered through people who feel connected, supported, and inspired. The Wheatbaker represents that balance perfectly, and it’s what made me confident that this was the right place to contribute my skills and grow professionally.
What does your typical day look like for you?
A typical day for me begins with reviewing my tasks and setting clear priorities to ensure I stay focused and productive. I like to start with a quick overview of any pending items or updates from the previous day, then organize my schedule based on urgency and impact. Some days are more data-driven—spent analyzing reports, preparing documentation, or tracking performance metrics. Other days are more collaborative, involving direct communication with colleagues to resolve issues, brainstorm solutions, or support ongoing projects. There’s a good balance between independent work and team interaction, which keeps my day dynamic. No two days are exactly the same, but I always aim to stay organized, proactive, and responsive to whatever comes up.
What do you enjoy most about working with your team?
Everyone on the team brings something unique to the table—whether it’s a particular skill set, perspective, or energy—and that diversity is one of our biggest strengths. We complement each other well, especially in high-pressure situations where teamwork and communication are key. There's a natural flow to how we collaborate, built on a strong foundation of mutual respect and trust. What makes it even more special is that the support isn’t just professional—it’s personal too. We genuinely care about one another’s growth and success. It’s the kind of environment where you’re encouraged to show up as your best self, knowing your team has your back. That shared commitment not only boosts morale but also drives us to deliver consistently great results.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy staying active and engaged through a mix of hobbies that keep me both physically and mentally refreshed. I’m passionate about playing sports—it keeps me competitive, focused, and energized. I also love reading, which allows me to unwind while expanding my perspective. Travelling is another big part of my life; I enjoy exploring new cultures, meeting people, and finding inspiration in unfamiliar places. And whenever I get the chance, I head to the pool—swimming helps me clear my mind and recharge. These activities not only bring me joy but also help me maintain a healthy work-life balance. They give me the clarity, creativity, and resilience I need to show up fully at work.
What department would you like to work in at the hotel if there’s cross-training?
I’ve always been drawn to the Finance department because it aligns perfectly with both my passion and long-term career aspirations. I’m genuinely fascinated by the way financial strategy drives business success, and I find fulfillment in working with numbers, analyzing data, and making informed decisions. Finance is not just a department to me—it’s a field where I see endless opportunities to grow, contribute meaningfully, and turn my dreams into reality. Being part of a finance team would allow me to develop my skills, take on new challenges, and play a key role in supporting the organization’s goals through precision, analysis, and strategic thinking.
What is one interesting fact about you that most people don’t know?
Most people are surprised to learn that I speak a second language and used to be part of a music group. It’s not something I talk about often, especially since I tend to be a little on the shy side. But once it comes up, it usually sparks some great conversations and unexpected connections. It’s always fun watching people’s reactions—it reminds me that we all have hidden layers and stories that don’t always show up on the surface.
How do you see the role of accounting evolving in the next few years?
Accounting is definitely evolving beyond traditional number crunching. With the rise of automation and advanced technologies, many routine and repetitive tasks are now being handled more efficiently and accurately. This shift is creating space for accountants to take on more strategic roles, focusing on data analysis, financial forecasting, and decision support. Rather than just recording transactions, modern accountants are becoming trusted business advisors, contributing to broader organizational goals. I believe that in the near future, accounting will be even more integrated into business planning, performance management, and strategic development. It’s an exciting time to be in the field, as it continues to grow in relevance and influence across all sectors.
