An féidir linn bualadh leat?
Hi, my name is Bolaji, and I’m a maintenance technician at The Wheatbaker. My role plays a key part in ensuring that all equipment, systems, and facilities across the hotel are running smoothly and safely. From routine inspections to preventive maintenance and urgent repairs, I help keep the environment functional, efficient, and guest-ready at all times. It’s a behind-the-scenes job, but one I take pride in—because every detail matters when delivering a seamless experience.
What is your favourite tool in the toolbox and why?
My favourite tool in the toolbox is the adjustable spanner. I love its versatility—the ability to adapt to different bolt and nut sizes makes it incredibly useful across a wide range of tasks. Whether I’m working on plumbing, fittings, or equipment adjustments, it’s often my go-to tool because of how efficient and reliable it is. It saves time, reduces the need to switch tools constantly, and always gets the job done.
What's one hotel area you enjoy working in the most?
One hotel area I really enjoy working in is the kitchen. There’s something special about being surrounded by the enticing aroma of different delicious dishes being prepared. The blend of spices, sizzling sounds, and warm energy creates a lively and inviting atmosphere. It’s also a space where teamwork is on full display—everyone moving in sync to deliver excellence. Even though I’m there for maintenance tasks, being in that environment makes the job even more enjoyable.
If your toolbox had a snack drawer, what snack would it be?
If my toolbox had a snack drawer, it would definitely be filled with plantain chips! Crispy, tasty, and easy to munch on between tasks—they’re the perfect mix of comfort and crunch to keep me going through a busy day. Plus, they never fail to lift my mood, no matter how challenging the job gets. It’s the ultimate toolbox treat!
What maintenance task would you gladly do every day, and which would you happily never do again?
I’d gladly replace bad faucets or other plumbing fixtures every single day. It’s straightforward, satisfying, and gives immediate results that improve functionality and guest comfort. There’s something rewarding about seeing things work perfectly again. On the flip side, I’d happily never unclog blocked drains again if I had the choice. It’s definitely one of the messier tasks, and I’d much rather focus on cleaner, more precise maintenance work. Less mess, more efficiency!
What song would be your maintenance mission soundtrack?
If I had a maintenance mission soundtrack, it would definitely be "My G" by Kizz Daniel. The beat, the vibe—it gives me that extra boost of energy and confidence to tackle any task, big or small. It’s the kind of song that keeps you moving, focused, and in a good mood, even during the busiest or most challenging moments on the job. With “My G” playing in the background, everything just flows better!
If you could invent one gadget to make your job easier, what would it be?
If I could invent one gadget to make my job easier, it would be called the "Fault Finder." This smart device would instantly detect hidden faults in electrical, plumbing, or mechanical systems—pinpointing the exact issue without the need for trial and error. It would save time, reduce guesswork, and make troubleshooting faster and more accurate. With a Fault Finder in hand, maintenance would be smoother, more efficient, and way less stressful—definitely a game-changer!
Who is your greatest of all time African footballer?
Victor Osimhen is my greatest of all time African footballer. His journey, determination, and incredible rise to the top are nothing short of inspiring. From humble beginnings to becoming one of the most feared strikers in Europe, he embodies hard work, resilience, and talent. His pace, strength, and goal-scoring ability make him a standout on the pitch—and his passion for the game is contagious. For me, he represents the future of African football and the pride of Nigeria.
What's your proudest moment as part of the maintenance team?
My proudest moment as part of the maintenance team was when we successfully resolved a critical issue in the facility that could have disrupted operations. It was a high-pressure situation that required quick thinking, teamwork, and precise execution. Seeing how we pulled together, stayed calm, and fixed the problem without impacting guest experience made me incredibly proud. Moments like that remind me of the importance of what we do behind the scenes—and how essential our role is to keeping everything running smoothly.
What's your most-used phrase or line while working?
My most-used phrase while working is “Any issue?” It’s short, simple, but says a lot. I use it constantly when checking in with different departments or team members. It’s my way of staying proactive—always on the lookout for anything that needs attention before it becomes a bigger problem. It opens the door for communication, keeps everyone alert, and shows that I’m always ready to help. In maintenance, staying ahead of issues is everything—and that phrase has become second nature to me.
