Being part of the Front Office team as a Porter at The Wheatbaker feels like joining a family that takes pride in delivering excellent hospitality. I was excited to become one of the people who represent that standard to our guests.
2. As one of the very first faces a guest sees, what is your secret to making them feel instantly at home the moment they step off the street?
A warm, genuine smile, eye contact and a respectful greeting make a difference. I assist guests with their luggage and make sure my presence makes them feel welcome.
3. How do you ensure every guest's luggage and belongings are handled with ultimate care and efficiency?
I always confirm the number of bags and handle each one with the same care I would give my own belongings. I use the trolley correctly and work carefully and in an organised manner so the guest has nothing to worry about.
4. What does true hospitality mean to you when escorting a guest to their room for the first time?
True hospitality means making the guest feel comfortable. Along with carrying their bags, I share useful details about the hotel and make sure they feel relaxed and valued.
5. How do you stay energetic, attentive, and welcoming throughout a busy day of guest arrivals and departures?
I remind myself that every guest I approach deserves a positive first impression. I stay focused on my role and remember that my energy can make their day and their stay better.
6. What is your favorite local tip or direction to share with a guest who is exploring the area for the first time?
I enjoy introducing first-time guests to our Spa, KÓFÍ shop, Grill Room and Terrace. I also share recommendations for restaurants, places to visit and lounges in the area.
7. What do you think sets the warm welcome at The Wheatbaker apart from other luxury hotels in Lagos?
At The Wheatbaker, we make the welcome personal by recognising guests and greeting them by name. We pay attention to small details, remember their preferences and offer calm, quiet luxury with sincere care.
8. How do you collaborate with the reception and concierge teams to make sure guest requests are handled seamlessly?
I maintain regular communication with the reception and concierge teams so I know which guests are arriving, departing or need special assistance. We work together to ensure their requests are handled smoothly.
9. What personal quality or strength do you rely on most when helping guests feel comfortable and well cared for?
I rely on patience, attentiveness, calmness and my ability to observe. I often notice when a guest needs assistance before they ask.
10. What is your favorite spot or aesthetic detail inside The Wheatbaker hotel?
I love the reception area because it feels calm, quiet and elegant, especially with the artwork on the walls. I also enjoy the lobby and KÓFÍ shop.
11. How do you handle unexpected or fast-moving requests at the front entrance with grace and poise?
I stay calm, acknowledge each guest and prioritise their requests so no one feels ignored. During busy moments, I handle one request at a time while remaining attentive to everyone waiting.
12. When you are off duty, how do you like to relax and spend your personal time?
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, watching movies, listening to music and playing games. Sometimes, I also go out to explore.
13. If you could describe the warmth and energy you bring to your role in three words, what would they be?
Welcoming, attentive and respectful.
14. What are you most looking forward to learning or accomplishing during your journey with us?
I look forward to growing within The Wheatbaker, learning more about luxury hospitality standards and becoming someone guests remember and ask for when they return.
15. What is one fun or interesting fact about yourself that colleagues and guests might be surprised to learn?
I rarely forget a face. After meeting a guest for the first time, I can often recognise them weeks or months later, and they are sometimes surprised that I remember them.
